model train, acrylic, power transformer

This model train set could be a child's nightmare. It has no engine or caboose. It has no beginning or end. It has no origin or destination. It's in constant motion but never gets anywhere. Winks in the direction of endurance are immediately obvious but what about the train as a deeper metaphor? The train is a symbol of the industrial revolution and the westward expansion across North America fueled by coal and manifest destiny. Could we be looking at the endurance of the industrial system? What about the feedback loops that maintain the system? Maybe it's the system's precarious nature, its inherent fallibility--the trap of an unsustainable structure. Maybe that's just me.
